Wind in K-12 Schools – Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation Grants

All Solar Schools are eligible for grant money to install wind turbines such as the Skystream 3.7, which is specifically mentioned by the grant program.  Windy City is currently working with 2 schools and one school district on this project (see Projects).  Windy City is an authorized SkyStream dealer with the expertise to assist schools in applying for these grants.  For more details, see: www.illinoiscleanenergy.org/k-12-wind.

WCP²- Windy City Power We Care Program

Windy City Power doesn’t just sell, install and service wind turbines.  Windy City Power uses what would otherwise be toxic waste to create a green product.  Coal ash is the # 1 component of Windy City Power’s proprietary wind turbine/solar/charging station bases.  This is important because like most of the U.S., the Midwestern states get the vast majority of their electric power from coal burning plants. Burning coal produces “coal combustion products” or CCPs. CCPs have long been treated as waste and disposed of in landfills and ponds, creating toxic dangers. Over 130 million tons of CCPs, most of it coal ash, are generated in the U.S. annually and there are over 600 coal ash dumpsites around the US. (CBS news).
But coal ash also has beneficial uses: It makes concrete that is stronger and more durable. Coal ash also reduces the amount of portland cement needed to make concrete. This is important because portland cement is the most widely produced man-made material on earth and it's one of the worst to the environment, currently creating 5-8% of the world's greenhouse gases. Not only does coal ash reduce the use of environmentally damaging cement and create superior, longer-lasting concrete, every pound of coal ash used is a pound that is not put into disposal sites.
Concrete itself is an environmentally sound and recyclable building material. The smallest of WCP's mobile turbine platforms uses 14,000 pounds of coal ash. Join our We Care Program and show how your company cares about our environment.  Contact us for a free site assessment.
